BURNABY –Reach for the Stars, a community art project, is currently on display at the Tommy Douglas Library.
Burnaby Homeless Connect is a free, one-day event hosted annually in October by the Burnaby Task Force On Homelessness. This event connects people who are living in extreme poverty and homelessness with essential goods and services.
In 2012 over 224 people received services at Burnaby Homeless Connect from 61 service providers and 48 volunteers. People accessed dental exams, eye exams, foot care clinic, blood pressure clinic, learning table, flu shots, hair cuts, make overs, manicures, and bike tune up station, SPCA, outreach and additional professional services. People deeply appreciated the donated clothing, comfort kits, games, door prizes and nutritious food.
Many people attending Burnaby Homeless Connect 2012 also participated in a community art project entitled Reach for the Stars. “This quilt showcases
the diversity and need of people living in extreme poverty in Burnaby,” said Wanda Mulholland of the Burnaby Task Force On Homelessness. The East Burnaby Quilters donated the colourful quilt entitled Reach for the Stars at Burnaby Homeless Connect.
