Burnaby Inter-Faith Community Kick Off Homelessness Action Week 2013

Burnaby Inter-Faith Community Kick Off Homelessness Action Week 2013

BURNABY – Creekside Community Church, Deer Lake School and the Burnaby Mosque have partnered with the Burnaby Task Force On Homelessness to help address some of the urgent needs facing Burnaby residents who are ill equipped to deal with the onset of winter due to issues of poverty and homelessness.

“The Inter – Faith Community in Burnaby has been an essential part of assisting vulnerable Burnaby people with practical items to keep people warm, dry and nourished during the especially challenging winter season and the entire year,” said Wanda Mulholland of the Burnaby Task Force On Homelessness.

“Without the support of the Inter-Faith Community in Burnaby; programs such as the Progressive Housing Homeless Outreach Program and the Lookout Society Extreme Weather Response would not be able to provide effective assistance,” stated Mulholland.

All persons interested in donating new or gently used items are invited to join in a second annual gathering of supplies for those in need on Saturday October 12 between 12 noon- 2:30pm at West Burnaby United Church 6050 Sussex Avenue. No items will be distributed on this date.

The most urgent needs at this time include: warm blankets, sleeping bags, winter coats, winter clothing, hotel sized toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, bars of soap) toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, men’s and women’s underwear (small, medium, large), men’s and women’s small sized jeans, tarps, towels, and canned food.
