Creekside Community Church Kicks Off Homelessness Action Week 2014
BURNABY – Creekside Community Church has partnered with the Burnaby Task Force On Homelessness
to help address some of the urgent needs facing Burnaby residents who are ill equipped to deal with the onset of winter due to issues of poverty and homelessness.
“With the recent change in the weather we are reminded of the significant challenges facing vulnerable Burnaby citizens to keep warm, dry and nourished especially during the winter season,” said Wanda Mulholland of the Burnaby Task Force On Homelessness.
“The Progressive Housing Homeless Outreach Program and the Lookout Society Extreme Weather Response depend on the thoughtful donations from the Burnaby Inter Faith Communities and concerned citizens to provide practical assistance to people living in extreme poverty and homelessness,” stated Mulholland.
All persons interested in donating new or gently used items are invited to join in a third annual gathering of supplies for those in need on Saturday October 11 between 12 noon- 2:30pm at West Burnaby United Church 6050 Sussex Avenue. No items will be distributed on this date.
The most urgent needs at this time include: warm blankets, sleeping bags, winter coats, winter clothing, hotel sized toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, bars of soap) toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, men’s and women’s underwear (small, medium, large), men’s and women’s small sized jeans, tarps, towels, and canned food.
